Next Generation Rookie Camp

The Next Generation Rookie camp is an opportunity to expose new and emerging players to vital information through learned experiences of past and present ALPG members on tour. The goal is to create an atmosphere where young players can openly ask questions, be offered advice and hear testimonies from some of Australia’s Greatest players.

The inaugural Next Generation Rookie camp was help in 2018 at Ballarat Golf Club, where the likes of Karrie Webb, Shani Waugh, Jenny Sevil and Karen Lunn spoke to and acted as mentors to the next generation. The educational sessions covered an array of topics including:

- Tournament preparation
- On-course strategies
- Tournament scheduling
- Club fitting and education
- The mental game
- Effective practice (quality vs quantity)
- Importance of caddies and caddy dealings
- Dealing with agents or managers
- Fitness and nutrition for golf & keeping healthy on the road
- Strategies to deal with being away from home & life on the road
- Maintaining a professional image
- Media and social media
- Arranging travel and visas
- Holding foreign bank accounts and foreign tax

The camp is held at the beginning of the year, in the weeks leading up to the major events on the ALPG schedule. This has been made possible by holding raffles at our ALPG National Clinics and through achieving funding from the R&A, as well as a generous donation from the 2018 ActewAGL Canberra Classic winner Jiyai Shin.
